چکیده

Ordinary labels on museum or gallery objects compromise the competing demands of diiering visitors, curators and educators. Although adaptive hypermedia systems ooer a degree of personalisation to the visitor, they do not go as far as they might. Intelligent labelling can achieve higher levels of personalisation, and this is desirable because it leads to a more coherent and educational visit, and because the overall interaction with the hypermedia resource becomes more like an active conversation, and less like reading a static book. We use natural language generation techniques, from the eld of artiicial intelligence, to generate personalised labels on demand. Our system can deliver these labels as Web pages, in an electronic gallery, or as synthesised speech in a physical gallery. We discuss aspects of coherence and conversa-tionality, and illustrate them with a simple case.

Exploring and Interacting with Virtual Museums

Traditional exhibitions in museums provide limited possibilities of interaction between the visitor and their artefacts. Usually, interaction is confined to reading labels with little information on the exhibits, shop booklets, and audio guided tours. These forms of interaction provide minimal information, and do not respond to a visitor’s personalized information preferences. As a result, ther...

Dynamic versus static hypermedia in museum education: an evaluation of ILEX, the intelligent labelling explorer

This paper describes an evaluation of an intelligent labelling explorer (ILEX), a system that dynamically generates text labels for exhibits in a museum jewellery gallery. In the evaluation, learning outcomes in subjects who used the dynamic ILEX system were compared to those of subjects who used a static-hypermedia version of the system (i.e. a system more typical of current hypermedia systems...

Reachability checking in complex and concurrent software systems using intelligent search methods

Software system verification is an efficient technique for ensuring the correctness of a software product, especially in safety-critical systems in which a small bug may have disastrous consequences. The goal of software verification is to ensure that the product fulfills the requirements. Studies show that the cost of finding and fixing errors in design time is less than finding and fixing the...

Human Interaction with Motion Planning Algorithm

This paper presents an interactive motion planning system to compute free collision motion in a numerical model. The system is based on interaction between a user and a motion planning algorithm. On one hand the user moves the object with an interactive device and on the other hand a motion planning algorithm searches a solution in the configuration space. The interaction aims at improving the ...
